It doesn’t matter if you’re a student, parents, employee, directors and etc. I think every human beings need to at least know a little bit about this. Through practicing SEL,it enables a group, a workforce or any other areas that requires communication and understanding to be more productive and somehow functioning better.
SEL is divided into five different areas. Which is stated below:
1)knowing yourself (self awareness)
No one in this world is born perfect, therefore it is important for us to know what we are good at so we can excel on it, in order to improve ourself we also need to know our weaknesses. Aside of that we must also be aware of our threat that could bring us down and what are the opportunities that we allow us to tap on.
2) knowing others (social awareness)
We don’t have to know others in depth but we should at least know how to differentiate when they are sad, stress, happy, worried and so on. I believe no one likes to be treated badly therefore we must act or do something at the right timing.
3)Managing ourself (self management)
In this areas, it covers on the ways we manage ourself such as in discipline, integrity and our emotions. Allow me to eloborate the statement. When we work with others definitely problems will start to occur and that may lead to stress and worries. So in order not to fall back or creating a scene we must aware of how we handle our stress and emotions so others won’t be affected. At the same time, we also must know how manage our time and priority. Motivation is another key to success, no one can force or tell us to keep going and move forward, it’s just us that need to know how to motivate ourself to be better in things we do.
4) Understanding others (relationship management)
In order for a person to be treated with respect and fair, we should know how to treat others the same way. We must aware of how we approach a situation as a team, the way we communicate with others and the engagement with one another. Basically, other people will treated us as how we treated them, therefore don’t expect more if you treat other people like shit.
5)Responsible decision making
I always remind myself nothing is easy in life. Every action that we take, we have to be responsible to it. Same goes when we work in a team. We should not blame others if that’s our fault and we should be responsible to every action and decision we make for the team. We must identify and analyse the problems first before we act on a solution. We must know our priority.
Honestly of all the things that I mention I think I’m still weak and need to learn how to manage myself and discipline myself. From what I know I am a person who prefers to say out what’s on my mind and clears the air to be dissociated from misunderstanding. Maybe because of the 5 years experience of teaching this in schools that make me to get used to it. I hope this blog may bring some facts and helpful to some people. Cheers all!
